"Must Have! How did I do for so long without it?!" 2009-05-21
By javajunki
I've owned this for 3.5 years and use it almost daily. In fact, I'm not sure how I did without it for so long. Even my better half who loves those expensive knives utterly fell head over heels for this unit. Perfect for salads and food prep of all types, this is one of the most used products in our kitchen. Great size for small families, it's a little work-horse that performs as good today as it did 3.5 years ago. Well built, powerful enough for most items and sized right. A must have for every kitchen!

"13 years and going strong" 2009-05-12
By reader in chicago
I got this as a wedding gift 13 years ago and it's still perking along. It's great for making things like hummus, baba ganoush, perfectly sliced potatoes, coleslaw. I just recently have started using it to make bread dough and it's revolutionized how I feel about baking bread. My only quibble is, as another reviewer said, the seal between lid and bowl is not tight enough and flour and liquid can sometimes slosh out. However, I've not had this adversely affect any of my recipes. It's a great, simple machine.

"Too small tube; not compatible with the recommended specialty disc set" 2008-12-29
By ManangK (USA)
I ordered this mainly for the task of fine grating, hence I ordered also the recommended specialty discs with the fine grating. I figured if I would have a gadget to do fine grating by the bulk (I got tired doing it by hand!), I might as well have one that can do the slicing (I have used my Zyliss mandoline for slicing purposes). The photo is misleading as it shows slices of what seems like a whole apple. The recommended disc set should have also come with a recommendation to get a stem disc that will enable attachment to the food processor (but like I said, they are not compatible). The food processor that will go with this disc set and the supposed disc stem is another model, but definitely not this one. Which model? I don't know. Cuisinart's documentation leaves a lot to be desired. No reference was made on the product literature of the disc set as to what food processor model this set can be used in. I am returning both products. What a waste of my time (and I have to pay not only shipping fee but also a restocking fee for the disc set which came from Kitchen Clique). I am not a happy customer this time. :(

By Patterson Park Public Char (Baltimore, MD)
A great labor saving device, easy to operate, simple to assemble, and disassemble to clean. No whirring motor sound as one might find with other manufacturers. The instructions and suggestion manual is well written, well illustrated and offers many applications that result in stellar results. If you are going to purchase a food processor this larger one does it all and will repay the price in satisfaction immediately.

 "Cuisinart still the best" 2009-03-16
By S. Williams (Sewickley, PA)
When my 30-year-old Cuisinart DLC finally died I wanted to find a reliable replacement. At first I was intrigued by the KitchenAid KFP750, but too many customer reviews complained that the bowl didn't have enough capacity for liquids. Since I often use my food processor to make soup, this was a big negative. I bought the Cuisinart DLC-2014 PowerPrep and have been extremely happy with it. No liquid overflow, and the same high-quality slicing, chopping etc that I have come to expect from Cuisinart. Besides, the streamlined design looks great!

 "Powerful" 2008-01-23
By BrendaA.
I bought the Cuisinart DLC-2024CHB/14 cup processor. Love it. The power is impressive and the holding tank is large enough. I can soups, etc. and this makes it very nice to be able to chop all the vegetables in the same bowl. I change the blade for shredding or larger slicing and don't have to empty the bowl as the bowl size is great.

I made a bunch of marinara sauce and ground the fennel seeds in it; however, that discolored the plastic holding bowl---haven't tried other ways to clean it yet--just hand washing.

I use it enough to leave it out on the counter--it is a little heavy.

 "Better than ever" 2009-08-16
By M. Jones (California)
I've been using my old DC-8 Cuisinart food processor for about 20 years but it finally gave out. This one is so far superior; they solved all the issues that made the old one less than ideal. 1. Easier to take apart and put together. 2. Stronger motor. 3. Better with liquids. 4. Easier to wash and keep clean. 5. Better for making bread--I can make 2 loaves at a time now and it doesn't overheat. Couldn't be happier.

"Great performer, very poor materials" 2009-08-01
By AREOPAGATE
Having spent 20+ years in busy restaurant kitchens, I know the value of a well-made piece of equipment. I have always found that Cuisinart was a great choice for our home kitchen. In this case, the DLC-2011 has performed well at every task, but the materials have failed over time. The first to go was the shaft for the shredder plate. Next was the handle on the bowl. Now we lost the shroud around the safety latch on the cover. If we buy this replacement piece, I will have paid about 75% of the price for a brand new unit. This is quite simply material failure over time to a degree that is unacceptable. The pieces all failed along seams or other places where one piece joined another. I should note that the plastic covering the buttons is starting to crack around the underlying switch. The motor still runs like a champ!

We take very good care of all our kitchen equipment, and do not exceed the capacity of any given appliance. We tend to invest in pieces that will be around for many years. (Our KichenAid stand mixer is one example. Still cranking it out after 25 years!) This item is definitely not in that class. We really like our other Cuisinart kitchen gear - but this is a disappointment.

"Recent purchase but impressed so far" 2009-07-12
By A. Ritchey (Okeechobee, FL)
I recently purchased this processor after debating Kitchenaid or Cuisinart. Since my last KA mixer purchase (Dec 2008) left me with a mixer far inferior to its twenty-year-old KA predecessor, I was inclined to give Cuisinart a try. I needed the normal processor functions (shredding/slicing/pulverizing) as my cheapo (25+ yr)processor processed some of its own parts. I make breads weekly (which is why the 2nd KA purchase)and have been literally blown away by the performance of the Cuisinart processor for making bread dough. It took several batches before I figured out how to best do so (and required ignoring directions on DVD). The dough only needs to be kneaded for a minute--two at the most. Every loaf I have made produced excellent results--even the ones following the DVD. The problem there was that the dough did not mix properly when streaming in the liquids. The mixture was going under the blade and rising up into the crevices of the blade--nasty cleaning job. After about 3 cleanings, I just tried putting everything into the bowl and going from there--adjusting texture as I needed. It's worked perfectly. I use the recipes from my breadmaker cookbook. Everything from whole grains mixtures to sour dough have turned out beautifully. Yes, it does slice and shred very well although some of the food gets trapped between the disc and the lid. My discs seem to be stainless steel although others have reported theirs were not--maybe a slightly different model (mine is DLC-2011N). I can't speak to longevity. I had only used my other processor for shredding and slicing. I really didn't use it that much. This one is being used at least weekly. There are many techniques (egg whites and cake mixes, for instance) I haven't yet ventured, but for now, I am really happy with my purchase.

 "Horrible Customer Service" 2009-06-20
By Diane M (Louisiana)
I just purchased my Cuisinart food processor today to replace an older one that I had (the bowl of the other one broke and it would have cost me almost as much for a new bowl as buying a new one). When we opened the box we noticed that we had a broken part in the box. This part belonged to the only piece that is not shown in the manual so we had no clue what the part was to look like and/or the part had broke off. We called customer service and spoke with someone named "Larry" that was extremely rude on the phone. I asked to speak to a supervisor and he would not allow me to speak to one until he was assured that I wasn't calling to complain about him I guess. I even had to ask this man if I was going to have to turn in a BBB report stating how I was not allowed to speak to someone with authority. Eventually we were connected to a supervisor (after quite a while), the supervisor was very nice and we were able to clear up the problem. Had I not have purchased this food processor at the markdown price of $100.00, I would have immediately brought it back to the store and bought the Kitchenaid to replace it. But, for the price I got it for I decided to grin and bear it.

Then the buttons with the Chop/Pulse words on them got sticky and started not working. Then I peeled the sticker off the front and found that liquid had gotten in there. I cleaned it out with a wet towel, but it still sticks and has an on/off mind of its own. It is a hassle to use. I want to buy one with real lever buttons next time or a better barrier between the liquid and electronics.

"DID NOT EARN A SPOT IN THE APPLIANCE GARAGE" 2009-07-06
By G. Watt (Pasadena,CA usa)
I wanted to LOVE it. I was in LUST with it. I even waited for the slightly larger, new & improved version to come out. But in the heat of battle it let me down.

The day it arrived I was SO excited. "I'll never use that big 14 cup behemoth again" I said. So I unceremoniously shoved it into the hall closet along with the vacuum, goat-skin rug, & the recently discarded Tupperware "cake-taker".

I proudly set my gleaming new mini-prep next to the K.A. stand mixer and the Mini ZO breadmaker in my one & only appliance garage (which will only hold THREE items.) "This is gonna be perfect for chopping herbs, making breadcrumbs, & chopping nuts" I thought. I admired it every time I looked at it.

Then one weekend company was coming & I wanted to make spinach dip (you know the one with the leek soup mix & the spinach & the green onion?)I finally had a chance to put the mini-prep through its paces. Well the darned mini-prep was just a little too small...I know, because I TRIED!

So down the hall I trudged to lug the BIG CUISINART back to the kitchen. Everything worked out & I only had 12 or so parts to clean & put away.

Bloom off the rose.

Next time, I was making carrot cake. But oops... the mini only has a

blade, no grater. Back down the hall.

This is getting to be a drag.

TIME: Not many days later.

SCENE: My house , a couple of hours before the BIG PARTY ... Lots of company, MUCHO food to prep. Need a ton of basil for the pesto ASAP! I'm workin' with greasy hands...I'm workin' with ONE HAND!! AND THE BOWL WON'T COME OFF!! I used TWO HANDS! It was just like trying to catch a falling bar of soap in the shower! THE WHOLE THING TIPS OVER! The base of the mini just doesn't have the weight of the BIG DADDY.

End of love affair.

Last time I saw the mini-prep it was on the clearence table at the church tag sale.

"What about the nuts & the herbs & the bread crumbs?" you ask?

A knife, a knife, a box of croutons & a sledgehammer........easier clean-up.

Check out this video for some great recipes and ideas.

http://kitchen-dining.hsn.com/cuisinart-mini-prep-plus-4-cup-food-processor_p-5421978_xp.aspx#$

I have a larger Cuisinart that sits on the shelf for months at a time and a 2 cup Black and Decker mini processor, which is just way too small, but I used it for years anyway. I had seen this model on a lot of TV cooking shows, but had no idea what size or brand it was. Now I am recognizing my model in use almost everyday.

I recently came across this 4 cup Cuisinart, quite by accident, and I absolutely love it. I have used it more in the last few weeks that I used the 2 cup in 6 months. It makes excellent bread crumbs, fresh and dried, and just the right amount of salsa or tapenade in seconds. Yes, it does pulverize onions, but I watch it very closely and since they are an ingredient, not served by themselves, they work out fine.

Four cups is a good size and it has a lot of power. It's easy to use and clean.

*** In response to the review where the motor died after only a few uses ... this happened to me the third or fourth time that I used it - it just stopped working. Fortunately my husband was standing there and while I was having a fit, he simply pushed the long plastic thing into the base to make the connection. I hadn't pushed it in all the way. No problem after that and I now make sure it is inserted properly.

I own an 11 cup pro from Cuisinart and love it. I bought this item in hopes of having a smaller version to use for smaller jobs like dressings, etc., which wouldn't take up as much space in the dishwasher. However, don't be fooled: though this item looks like the larger models, it has an underpowered motor (which smells of burning rubber when running) and a cheap, dinky blade. Quite simply: it feels like a cheap piece of junk. I plan to return it immediately.

"Nice processor, but see my update" 2009-06-16
By C2000 (usa)
I have owned this one (DLC-8S Pro Custom 11 cup - White) and a 7 cup processor for years. Both processors that I own have a compact flat cover, which I love. I only use the metal S blade, so I can't review the other attachments. I only fill it to the top of the metal S blade or perhaps a quarter inch below the top of the metal S blade (about 4 cups), otherwise it seems to stress out the machine or if semi-liquid, it will spill out somewhat. I like the flat covers so much, I bought extra covers, just in case.

UPDATE: I recently bought this from amazon and the unit squeaks. It is irritating. It's not an extremely high noise - probably a medium squeak, which comes and goes during processing. I called cuisinart and they said it wasn't normal and to return it. I can't return it because I threw out parts of the unit I never use and I even trashed the receipt. I didn't realize the problem at first for some reason. I have an identical unit I bought several years ago, which does not squeak (yes, I own 2, 11 cup processors, but the new bowl is a little too loose on the older engine, even though they are both 11 cups). Actually, I have owned 4-5 cuisinart food processors and none of them squeaked. Units might make a noise similar to a squeak if abused or overfilled, but it always goes away once you stop and fill the unit properly. I do recommend this brand, but save everything in case of engine defects like this. The engine does have a 10 year warranty - see the last page of the book. I will keep this squeaky engine for now, since trying to deal with the problem is stressing me out. I will probably just buy a new on in 1-2 years.

 "DLC7 vs. DLC 8S" 2009-05-03
By Rebecca DeAndrea (Pittsburgh, PA)
Twenty-eight years ago, I purchased my first (refurbished)Cuisinart (DLC7) for $49 at a Department store wholesale (sale). At 8:00am the doors opened and customers ran to claim their items from the advertised flier. Needless to say, I became the first-time owner of a Cuisinart Food Processor. I finally retired that processor, last week... only because the bowl's handle finally chipped off completely at the bottom, rendering it inoperable! I was no longer able to get a replacement bowl, so it went out on the curb with the motor still in perfect shape! I could have cried! It was like losing my best friend! I spent 28 years chopping, mixing, creaming, etc. for a cost of less than $2.00 a year. What product lasts that long anymore? I certainly got my money's worth!

I just purchased the 11-cup DLC-8S Pro Custom 11 Food Processor. It should arrive in time for Mother's Day. I know that most products today don't seem to be made as well as they once were, but I trust that a company that has been around as long as Cuisinart has, will stand by their product, so to me it is worth the "gamble". (I need the bigger size, too!)

 "Flawed design" 2009-04-17
By Christopher Coleman (United States)
I had this food processor for more than 6 years. It worked quite well. We used it to grate a lot of cheese, slice veggies, make salsa, make latkes... However, the plastic the bowl and lid are made from is not strong enough to stand the test of time. I had to replace the bowl and parts of the lid several times because they would crack. As the price of the replacement parts began to approach the price of a new food processor, I've decided we need a new one. We'll probably go for the KitchenAid, because even though the Cuisinart now has a new design for their 11 cup food processor, I just don't trust it.

I /think/ this is the food processor I have. It's worked fine motor-wise so far (but it's only been 2 years), but the problem is that some small, incredibly fragile piece of plastic broke off the tall lid, the one used for slicing, before I even used it - so now it won't fit, which means it won't close securely enough which it means it won't operate.

"Dangerous! Don't buy this thing." 2009-07-31
By Lisa M. Gilmore (Mill Valley, CA)
I was grinding garlic and salt together and the blade broke off and tore through the plastic bowl. If I was holding it, it would have sliced through my hand! I called Cuisinart to report the problem and they were very rude. They kept telling me that it was out of warranty and there was nothing they could do. You would think they would want to know what happened and perhaps tell the manufacturer to attach the blade more securely!! This thing is a hazard don't spend your money on it or count on Cuisinart to stand behind their product.

"Great for Making Baby Food" 2009-07-14
    By S. Easley (Atlanta, GA)
Great for making baby purees. The size is perfect and won't take over your dishwasher. The bowl easily rinses clean so you can do several different foods in a hurry while baby is napping. Comes with a handy little spatula-like tool. I keep a fresh serving ready and then scoop the rest into ice cube trays for freezing.

"good processor but did not last long" 2009-06-30

works great but after a year and half of use ( once a week), it just stopped working. I am not happy and I'm not going to buy similar item again, I'll try another brand.

     "my mighty helper" 2009-06-15
    By julia gourmet
THis was purchased to replace the older model 6 years old. I use it mostly for chopping nuts to making salad dressings, anything small to not have to take the big one out. I love the new features and it is stronger and faster. However When trying to shred cheese the processor was not strong enough to do it.
